Finally, a well-deserved break for all of us hard-working ladies. We seldom get 4 days off work or school, so I feel like it’s our duty to maximize it. Whether it be by taking a relaxing break away from the bustling crowd or just catching up with old time friend/s, here are some of my recommended essentials not only for the long weekend but for the rest of the summer as well.

(1) Sun Block

Shiseido White Lucent All Day Brightener SPF 36 (P 2,750). Aside from the sun protection it offers, it also has teeny tiny reflective particles that gives the skin a radiant glow. However, if you’re staying outside, Biore UV Perfect Face Milk (P 380) has better sun protection.

Sun block is a MUST even on regular days. Actually, this should already be part of your morning skincare routine even when you’re not fully exposed to the sun. Regular use of sun block is known to prevent premature sun spots and skin aging. SPF15 to 30 is enough for normal office days but something higher is preferable if you’re heading to the beach.

(2) Oil Control Film

Clean&Clear Oil Control Film (P70+). If you’re very particular with scents, you may want to try the blue variant but as for me, I like this pink one – it has this light pomegranate scent that is super refreshing especially on hot days.

Most people think that powdering their face when it starts to accumulate excess oil is a great way to remove shine. NO. This is actually the best way to get pimples as this method only clogs your pores.

Mental Note: Always blot off the excess off first BEFORE powdering.

(3) Mist

Avène Thermal Spring Water Mist (P500+). This not called miracle water for nothing; it is able to alleviate rashes and itching due to summer heat! I even hoarded a couple of 300mL cans when I was in Singapore because it was THAT good. Celeteque Hydrolyzed Moisturizing Mist (P349). It’s slightly heavier on the skin than Avene because it also doubles as moisturizing agent so if it’s too hot or you sweat profusely and can’t handle the conventional cream moisturizers, this can be a good alternative – it’s cheaper, too!

Spritzing on mist not only helps you cool down but also gives your makeup that dewy look. This is actually a trick I use when I over-powder my face and it looks too matte.

(4) Facial Wipes

Neutrogena Cleansing Towelettes (P350). This are my current favorite! They remain moist even when I leave them inside the car and it is able to remove even the toughest waterproof mascara without any struggle! A more affordable and easily accessible alternative would be the Purederm Cleansing Towelettes (P89) that are found in Watsons. Leave them on your lashes for a couple of seconds to allow it to breakdown to mascara to remove it. It requires a little effort but it works! This works best for light to medium makeup. You can even get them for as low as P50 per pack when they’re on sale. My personal favorites are Argan and Collagen.

Even the driest of skin will get oily under this humid weather and there are times when we just want to wipe everything clean so it’s always best to keep a pack of facial wipes at hand. This is especially useful when traveling since you won’t have to bring your usual makeup remover (in my case, Bifesta Cleansing Lotion) and a bunch of cotton round.

(5) Cheek and Lip Tint

Jazzy France Dame de Coeur Color Stay (P299). With it’s unique tricolor design, you can surely get a spectrum of shades by mixing them. The Body Shop Lip & Cheek Stain (P795), by far, gives the most natural looking blush I’ve tried so far. It just blends on the skin effortlessly!

Now, we don’t want to pile on too much makeup on our face, do we? That would be a total waste since it would just melt off once we step outside the house. All we need is just a little bit of color on our lips and cheeks – what better way that with a tint, right? (1) It’s multi-functional so you won’t have to bring 2 products; (2) it gives a very natural blush; and, (3) it is more likely to stay on even you swim!

(6) Dip Brow Pomade

Anastasia Dip Brow Pomade (P1,100+). I swear by this product! I wear it everyday to work, and I even wear it to the beach. It stays on forever and no amount of oil and sweat/water can remove it as long as you don’t accidentally swipe it when it’s wet.

You know me, #KilayIsLife! I wouldn’t be caught dead without my brows. Heck, I even did my brows before my surgery last week! So just a bit of disclaimer, this is definitely on every possible list I’ll be doing. Haha.

(7) Lip Balm

Carmex Moisturizing Lip Balm (P110+). I find the original Carmex tube to be more effective in softening up the lips than the other variants but that’s just me. I’ve seen a lot of professional makeup artists us Carmex to prep their clients before applying lipsticks so you know it has to be good, right?

We keep saying how we should always moisturize our skin given the harsh summer heat but don’t forget about your lips as well. Show your lips some love and always keep them from drying and cracking by applying on generous amount of lip balm.

(8) Shades

Foldable Rayban Aviators (P 6,000+). It has to be foldable simply because I have no space in my bag for the full one. Haha

Be fashionable and at the same time, prevent your eyes from the harmful rays! But if you’re staying in for the long weekend and cuddling a good book (which I might do, actually), you may skip this. Haha

How about you, what’s your long weekend/summer essentials? 🙂
