I can’t remember the exact title of the article but from what I’ve read, it is advisable to change your complete skincare routine every 2-3 months because our skin gets used to their active agents through continued used. And so our skin becomes “immune” to it thus lessening their effects. That being said, I’ve been  switching skincare products very-so often to maximize their effectiveness. However, I like injecting my regimens with organic skincare products to help balance everything out.
Talking about organic skincare products, one of my favorite all-organic brand, Burt’s Bees, recently celebrated its 30th anniversary in the health and beauty industry. I was privileged to have been invited to the intimate celebration but it’s even more fortunate that my class schedule permitted me to attend – it would’ve sucked big time if I missed it. HAHA.
We all know Burt’s Bees for their best-selling lip balms but what we don’t know is the inspiring story behind it. You see, the guy in the cover of their salves is not just any random picture of a guy they decided to represent the brand. It’s actually Burt himself. Burt’s Bees started in Maine in the 1980’s. The photo of the man in the classic packaging of Burt’s Bees products is Burt Shavitz. Roxanne Quimby, the co-founder of Burt’s Bees, made candles from Burt’s leftover beeswax which eventually became their best-selling lip balms in 1991.

His story solidifies my belief that behind every man’s success is a woman – Burt met his wife who made candles out of the excess beeswax that ultimately became the lip balms that we all know and love now. What would have become of our chapped lips if Burt didn’t meet his creative wife? :))
The event was held at Seda Hotel, BGC. The set up was amazing – we got our own mason jars for us to personalize our own infused drinks and everything on our table was personalized as well. There’s something about personalized stuff that makes me feel welcome and appreciated, may it be on events or care kits. Who wouldn’t be touched, right?
I’ve tried a number of Burt’s Bees products and to be honest, my top pick would have to be their toilettes. Those makeup removers are the bomb! They have just the right amount of moist in them that they don’t drip when used nor feel dry on the skin. They’re unscented, soft and gentle on the skin whilst still being able remove every bit of my makeup. Yes, even my water-proof mascara! I love how light it feels on the skin. I don’t even have to wash my face after when I’m being super duper lazy. I love them to bits! Their Tomato Toner is a close second, though. <3
The talented people behind Burt’s Bees team are strong believers that whatever you put ON our skin goes IN our body. So it’s a definite no to highly complex chemical ingredients because for them, the simpler it is to spell the ingredient, the better. That said, everything that’s used to make their products can be found in nature – our biggest provider.
Another cool thing about the event: Liz of Project Vanity actually held a quick water color workshop and demo. Liz is just incredibly talented. I’ve been a fan of her art since she started posting them on Instagram but when you see how quickly and effortlessly painting is for her, your admiration would surely double, too. Believe me when I say that I suck at anything that is even remotely related to drawing or art, basically. My other siblings are talented in drawing but not me, not even the slightest. I can draw stick figures – no more, no less. But it was fun trying and seeing how it’s actually done, though.
The food was great, too. For starters, we had Apple Salad followed by Salmon and Pasta, and then Blueberry Cheesecake with Lemon Extract for dessert. Everything was delicious but all I can think of was “BF would’ve loved these!” <3 Both dishes are his absolute favorites so I’m actually thinking of bringing him there for a date. HAHA.
The afternoon was filled with beauty products, good food, art and a much-deserved girl bonding – this is what I love about events. I don’t normally get to hang out with my friends other than my roommates because of my schedule so I always look forward to quaint events like this. Again, happy anniversary, Burt’s Bees, and cheers to more beautiful years in spreading the love for organic products. 🙂
