I’ve always seen Katy Perry as someone who is very iconic for being perky, creative and yet is still able to remain wholesome. Her 2 previous perfumes do speak for themselves. But as she matures, so does her taste in perfumes. Her latest creation isn’t as sweet and cute as “Purr” and “Meow”. Ordinarily, people would speculate further that the new strong and powerful side of Katy Perry is brought about by her recent divorce. I’d say, whatever the reason behind the new perfume is, it’s doing her good. I’m loving the new feel.
Inspired by the strong woman described by Freddie Mercury in his song, Katy Perry came up with a new perfume called Killer Queen that embodies the woman depicted in the song. It’s strikingly gorgeous fragrance captures Katy Perry’s rebellious spirit throwing convention to the wind.
The Philippine launching for Killer Queen by Katy Perry was held last October 19 at SM Aura. They had a throne set up with matching props at the beauty section entrance of the department store but before that, we had a brief intimate event with the executives of the Prestige Brands to introduce the new scent.
To really embody the Killer Queen vibe, the tea party was held at Royal Touch that’s owned by none other than Carolyn Robb, the royal chef. Yes, she was the one who made Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding cake. How awesome is that? Best part is that it’s now available in the Philippines. Their flagship branch is located at the Lower Ground Floor of SM Aura in case you want to try out their heavenly cheesecakes. I highly recommend their Duke of Caramel Mini Cheesecake. <3 Talk about getting a royal treatment, eh?
Make-believe crowns, fancy event with English guards and a red velvet cupcake from Carolyn Robb’s Royal Touch.. This is as royal as we can get ladies. HAHA! 😀
Let’s get down to the knitty gritty aspects of the perfume, shall we?
Even the promotional ad for Killer Queen shows her resentment for the conventional roles of women. She kicked down the throne as if saying that she will not play by anyone else’s rules – she’s an independent woman with a strong drive and that she’ll do things her way. I’d like to think that this how modern women are today.
The Fragrance
Created by Laurent Le Guernec of IFF, Killer Queen is an addictive fragrance that bewitches, indulges and demands to be noticed. “The Red Velvet Flower inspired this creation beginning with the richness of the burgundy red, the velvety feel reminiscent of a royal cape and its deep textured floral scent”, says Laurent Le Guernec.
Perfumer: Laurent Le Guernec, IFF
Top Notes: Wild Berry, Dark Plum and Bergamot
Middle Notes: Red Velvet Flower, Natural Jasmine Sambac and Rainbow Plumeria
Base Notes: Cashmeran, Natural Patchouli Heart and Liquid Praline
Spot something unusual? Yes, Killer Queen’s signature scent comes from red velvet flower. It’s rarely used on perfumes because it has to be super red to get the desired smell. Because, as we know, red velvet’s aroma comes from its color. Killer Queen is a bit strong at first but after a while the scent tones down. It smells great although initially, I think more appropriate for the working girls-type. The perfume exudes authority.. something a strong woman would love.
The Bottle
Inspired by a queen’s scepter, the distinct jewel-shaped bottle in shades of royal red and gold portrays sexy sophistication and lawless luxury. The faceted bottle rests languorously on its side, like a loose, precious gem fit for a Queen. The regality of the bottle is enhanced with a rich gold crown showcasing a custom crest capturing Katy Perry’s playful essence—regal cats, a music clef, hearts and dagger.
The Carton
The imperial red carton echoes the royalty of a Killer Queen with a tufted textured pattern reminiscent of a throne framed with a fanciful ermine border. Playful gold crowns add whimsy to the carton while the signature Katy Perry crest and ornate filigree logo add prominence and distinction.
“When I was creating Killer Queen, I was really inspired by the idea of a strong, confident woman in power and that is exactly what I hoped to put into this fragrance, something that brings out the power inside of you.” – Katy Perry
