On days that I have to go back and forth venues for several events, I wish nothing but a quick and hassle trip going back home. Don’t get me wrong; I love attending blogger events and it’s a privilege just to be invited but for someone who lives all the way in the south, I try to attend as much as I can in one day. So once the last event for the day is about to end, I always hear myself murmuring, “sana walang traffic pauwi”. Haha.
That was exactly the kind of day I was having on Thursday last week. However, on my last stop/event for the day, I received a very relaxing treatment that I didn’t mind the heavy traffic going home. I was asked to visit Clara International Skin & Body Clinic in Quezon Ave early in the afternoon and oh boy, was I in for a nice treat. 🙂
A quick background about the clinic: Clara International opened its doors to the Filipino public in 2003, but was actually founded in Malaysia in 1977. Several other centres have also been established all over Asia, where Clara International enjoys recognition as a trusted name in skin care. That is not at all surprising, considering that its primary objective is to provide products and services which are compatible with Asian skin.

Presently, Clara International centres in the Philippines offer a wide array of skin and body care services. Aside from corrective facial treatments and the usual facial that most of us may already be familiar with, it is also known for its natural whitening treatments. Clara International places much emphasis on the use of products from all-natural sources, not just for its whitening treatments, but for all other services as well. This is perhaps one of the factors that distinguish it from many other skin care clinics in the market, as the movement for a more natural lifestyle continues to be a trend.

Ms. Anne Sia, the owner of Clara International Philippines, takes pride of the fact that Clara international customized each client’s aesthetic or wellness treatment to suit the latter’s needs. Not only that, they also have tons of high-end machines ready for use – no need for queues even when clients come all at once. I’m pretty sure that with all the registered nurses (yes, ALL therapists at Clara International are RN’s), private rooms and machines they have, Clara Int’l can indeed accommodate them.
My afternoon started with a quick Diode Laser for the underarm. We used a new machine called Soprano Diode Laser from Alma Lasers.  Hair removal is one of the aesthetic medical industry’s most well-known and researched uses of lasers and the Soprano Diode Laser Pain-Free, Hair-Free. The treatment has provided safe and effective permanent hair reduction for thousands of patients worldwide. Because this machine utilizes the in-motion and low-heat settings, they’re able to provide a level of safety unlike any other laser hair removal procedure. Better than IPL.

The session started with shaving and cleaning the area. I was told that you cannot shave, wax or even pluck the area for 2-3 weeks before the session so just imagine for uncomfortable I was at that point. Gross! Anyway, after cleaning, a grid was drawn to mark the area using a white eyeliner pencil. The therapist moved the handheld piece on the area for several minutes before starting the treatment. With continuous motion, she moved the device around the area. I was actually asked to use a protective lens throughout the session to shield my eyes from the laser so I can’t really tell you much except how it felt.
Overall, there was no stinging, burning sensation or any kind of discomfort for that matter. It was, in my standards, hassle-free and quick. I believe the whole session took less than 30 minutes.  You can have this done and return to work, school or other normal activities immediately.
Ideally, 4 to 6 treatments would be adequate to provide permanent hair reduction. However, after a one-on-one consultation, your provider may determine that based on the density of your hair, hair color and skin color, you may require additional treatment. Although, it’s not unusual to require a touch-up treatment two years after completing laser hair removal treatments.
For the face, we started with Corrective Facial Treatment. It is more than just your ordinary facial! Clara International believes that correction of problem areas is the first step to beautiful skin. These corrective facial treatments are specially modified to your skin’s needs to correct specific skin problems such as acne, blackheads, aged and dehydrated skin.
Believe it or not, this is actually what I’m most excited about. Getting a monthly facial is part of my regular routine so I was quite intrigued when Ms. Anne talked about their so-called Corrective Facial. Before the facial itself, my skin was analyzed through some kind of blue-lit box. I had to insert my head in this box-like machine while Ms. Anne walked me through my skin’s problem as she check my skin from the other side of the box – there was a mirror inside the box from where I can see my own face.
The majority of my face was blue which means it was dry, the nose area, though, was purple signaling that the area was oily. Also, there was orange-y pinprick fluorescence on the nose area. Yes, they’re blackheads. I’ve always known that blackheads and whiteheads are my biggest problem but really seeing them emphasized on the skin analysis machine bothered me more. With the skin analysis, a facial better suited for my skin problem was prescribed.
It started just like my ordinary facials – removing the makeup and cleaning the face with a sponge. However, instead of steaming my face right after the sponge cleaning, there was an additional step which they call “deep cleansing”. This is when they use a machine with a metal plate-tipped device. The metal, while creating eerie buzzing sounds, is ran through every area of the face. This helps melt down dirt that sits deeper into the pores to make it easier to extract after steaming.
Steaming and extracting followed. After that, two kinds of facial masks were used to lock in everything. The purpose of the first mask is to close the pores to avoid clogging especially since I was commuting that day. The final mask was rather interesting as gauze was placed on my face before the actual mask. This time the pink rubbery mask was for intensive hydrating; this is to help my skin maintain the normal moisture level. After a few minutes, the gauze was used to make the mask easier to peel off after drying. 🙂

My skin felt squeaky clean without feeling dry. It did feel a bit “tugged” at some areas but overall it was fine. My skin was super soft. I noticed that the therapist was really able to remove the gunk that clogs my pores! And she did that with minimal pricking! My nose area would usually hurt after a facial because this is where the concentration of blackheads are so I was expecting it to sting. To my surprise, there was merely any pain. The facial took almost 2 hours and I loved every minute of it. It was a complete pampering session indeed. If only they have a branch nearer our house!

My final treatment for the afternoon was this thing called SkinLite Treatment. It is a non-invasive quick fix with absolutely no downtime. This machine emits a special spectrum of photoflash system activate fibroblast to produce new collagen and elastic fibers, smoothing skin and returning elasticity to skin. Meanwhile, photothermal function accelerates the microcirculation of blood vessel, reaching the effects of diminishing fine lines around the eye area, wrinkles, blemishes and shrinking pores.
The session started with the application of a light gel product on my face as a medium for the device then a cotton pad soaked in cold water was used to cover my eyes from the flashing lights emitted by the machine. The therapist started on the jawline going upwards to the forehead area. The small metal on the end of the device is pressed on each portion of the skin until the flash went off and it starts beeping. This is done on the entire face. After which, the setting was changed for the areas where I have hyper pigmentation like the cheeks. I hardly felt anything during the whole treatment – again, no discomfort whatsoever. The flashes of light was rather harsh; good thing my eyes were covered.
My skin looked A-M-A-Z-I-N-G afterwards! It felt incredibly smooth and supple right after the treatment. I had to actively stop myself from touching my face. I didn’t need to wear makeup because it already looked so fresh. Unlike other laser treatments wherein you are strongly urged not to wear any makeup on after, with SkinLite, you actually can. I don’t think you’ll need it, though. 🙂 Also with SkinLite, there is no downtime – no redness, no any kind of skin reaction or even complicated guidelines to follow as an “after-treatment maintenance”.
It’s almost a week since I had the treatment and I can still see how rejuvenated my skin is. It makes me wonder how long the “effect” would last. Aside from the immediate result, SkinLite also has long-term effects with continuous use. I’m guessing this has something to do with skin pigmentation seeing as it has already helped lighten the pimple marks on my right cheek.
SkinLite has got to be one of the most pain-free, hassle-free and yet still effective procedures I’ve tried so far. It was so relaxing that I actually fell asleep during the treatment. If you have troubled skin and are looking for a quick fix, this could very well be your best bet. 🙂
