There are days when, despite our best efforts, our skin
still looks dull and gloomy which is normally caused by stress, unhealthy
eating and lack of sleep. I usually experience this during what we like to call
“hell week” or exam week because I’m not the type of student who reviews in
advance. I like to cram the night before my major exams in accounting so that
probably explains a lot. During those times, I trade my usual
contour-blush-highlight routine to just blush and highlight to lighten up my
face. Err.. Fake a blooming look to be exact.
Anyway, here are two of my most abused highlighters of the
moment; MeMeMe Beat the Blues Highlighter in Sunbeam (Read review HERE) and Etude House Secret Beam Highlighter in No.
02 (Read review HERE). Both products
are actually really good but I noticed some difference so I decided to make an
in-depth compare between the two. So let’s dive in, shall we?
PRICE

I got my MeMeMe Beat the Blues Highlighter in Sunbeam for
Php 360 from Makeupholics (cheapest I’ve seen so far) and Etude House Secret
Beam Highlighter in No. 02 for Php 478. Personally, I think the difference in
price is immaterial but for those in a tight budget, they make opt to get
Sunbeam instead.
PACKAGING and EASE OF
USAGE

The two are very different in terms of packaging. MeMeMe
Beat the Blues Highlighter in Sunbeam has a creamy consistency that comes in a
small nail-polish-like container whereas Etude House Secret Beam Highlighter in
No. 02 is similar to the typical compact blush. As for ease of usage, the two
products have their own strength. MeMeMe Beat the Blues Highlighter has its own
mini brush which is convenient when you’re in a public place. Like when you’re
in the little girls’ room with tons of other girls crowding in front of the
mirror as the touch up their makeup. It is quite hard to pull out your things
from you makeup kit… what more a complete blush and brush duo? That’s why for
traveling and going out for a date, I prefer to bring my MeMeMe Beat the Blues
Highlighter. Etude House Secret Beam Highlighter, on the other hand, is easier
to use in the morning when I’m in a hurry to do my makeup. How exactly? Well,
since I use the same brush to apply my blush and highlighter, I just swirl it a
couple of times on my highlighter and sweep it on the apple of my cheeks and
I’m good to go. Its way faster than dabbing the product using your fingers
until it is properly blended.
RESULTS

Both products give a beautiful iridescent glow to the skin
when used which I really love. The only difference is that under flash
photography, Etude House Secret Beam Highlighter tends to give off a white cast
under all the shimmer particles making it look slightly ghastly when captured
at night. MeMeMe Beat the Blues Highlighter, on the other hand, looks more natural as it appears to be seamlessly blended even with flash.
WINNER:

Both
products are great but overall I would recommend MeMeMe Beat the Blues Highlighter over Etude House Secret Beam
Highlighter simply because it looks better on photos.
