You probably all know by now how I’m plagued with premature fine lines around the eye area which is why I’ve been persistenly trying out new eye creams and concealer–some worked; a lot didn’t. And because I was completely impressed by the Benefit Cosmetics It’s Potent Eye Cream, I decided to rummage my stock pile of deluxe samples from the brand to see if they’re as praise-worthy as the eye cream. From what I received from my previous BDJ Boxes, I pulled out some of their newer, more innovative releases – and this Fake Up Concealer topped the bill. *wink!
Product Description:
Cover-up goes incognito! This hydrating crease-control concealer – with Vitamin E & apple seed extract – hides dark circles & diffuses fine lines for a silky smooth, ultra-natural look. Available in three shades, it’s proven to keep skin hydrated for 6 hours!
Fake Up Concealer comes in a dainty silver tube with damask-like purple detailing. The upper half cap pops off easily but also locks securely; little things like this is actually a big plus for me because I’m assured that it won’t make a mess inside my bag. The tube itself is made of plastic so, as expected, it’s lightweight and very travel-friendly. Though what I have is just a deluxe sample, it is my understanding that the full-sized product also comes in essentially the same packaging only bigger – well, duh?! 🙂
What’s interesting about this new Benefit Cosmetics Fake Up Concealer is that it has 2 parts: the hydrating ring that feels a bit like a lighter version of petroleum jelly, and the concealer core that provides the coverage. I don’t know about you but this is definitely a first for me.

I read somewhere online that premature lines can be caused by skin dehydration. That time I used to settle for serums at night but ever since I came across that article, I’ve been religiously applying moisturizers PLUS my favorite Laneige Water Sleeping Pack_EX at night to really boost my skin’s moisture level. Eye creams are also a staple in my skincare routine since last year; all this to ensure that my skin is getting all the help it can possibly get to maintain its natural moisture level. The idea of the hydrating ring in this cutting-edge Fake Up Concealer is a welcome addition to the troop.

Like I said, the hydration ring feels much like petroleum jelly albeit featherweight. It creates a transparent film but it doesn’t feel oily or greasy. It is hydrating to the extent that it can work as a moisturizing base for the concealer as well as to ease the blending process BUT it cannot replace moisturizers all together. For shallow lines, it can also work as a filler to prevent the concealer from settling. However, this not enough for deeper lines. For this I suggest prepping with a silicon-based primer prior concealer application.

The concealer is quite soft and creamy which makes it that much easier to blend out. I suggest using your ring finger for blending because the natural heat coming from our fingers help breakdown the product even more. Also, because the skin around the eye is rather thin, make sure to use for ring finger and do so in a light patting motion. 🙂

Fake Up Concealer offer sheer coverage which is why I would recommend this to those whose problem doesn’t lay on the darkness but more on the dryness of the area. If you have severely dark under eye circles, I don’t think this is going to cut it for you. I suggest getting something thicker, heavier and have better coverage. Fake Up Concealer is perfect for natural looks for everyday but not for all-out glam looks.
As for wear time, I honestly haven’t noticed it fade that much probably since I’m always wearing my glasses. Haha. But seriously, I think this lasts enough to get me through quick errands without fading. As for late night events, well that’s a different story. 😛
Overall, I think the Benefit Cosmetics Fake Up Concealer is a great product. It’s not for everyone but it is pretty awesome. You just have to define what your major problem is (dryness, lines, darkness, etc.) and what you’re looking for in the product. If you need something lightweight, hydrating and with light coverage then this is for you. But if your problem is incredibly dark circles under the eyes, get something with better coverage. Simple as that. 😀
