I always think that it is unwise for me to buy more makeup (even though they’re on sale) when I have quite a handful of unused products in my stash. But every once in a while, I see a product or a shade that I don’t have yet so I try to talk myself into getting it. I often regret it as soon as I swatch/use it. Thank goodness that wasn’t the case for this Preview x Happy Skin Moisturizing Matte Lippie Set. The other thing forcing me to get this is that I’ve always wanted to try the brand Happy Skin. I’ve heard tons of good stuff about it and it’s about time I jump in the bandwagon. 🙂
Preview Magazine and Happy Skin celebrate 20 years of being #imaPreviewgirl
with these limited edition matte lippies. Each Shut Up & Kiss Me Moisturizing Matte Lippie contains Happy Skin’s signature shea butter and collagen combo paired with powerful Cupuacu Butter, which offers unrivaled hydration, healing, and improved elasticity. Presented in two pigments that best represent the Preview girl – timeless red and classic nude – you can wear them alone or layer them together, like the true fashionista that you are.
The Preview x Happy Skin Moisturizing Matte Lippie Set
is housed in a commemorative cardboard book-type packaging that gives tribute to the 20th year of the popular women’s magazine. The front looks very much like a magazine cover, but it is a lot smaller and thicker. The gold sides have lines that attempt to make it look like pages of a book. The insides of it are shallow except for the 2 crayon-like lipsticks and a plastic that hold them in place.
The packaging as a whole reminds me of the Benefit Cosmetics How To Look The Best At Everything set because of the book-type cardboard. But this Happy Skin is a lot more appealing to me. This has got to be one of my favorites! The red lip pattern interior looks incredible with the old gold exterior. <3
Hot Stuff and Too Cool are supposedly the first matte shades from The Shut Up & Kiss Me lipstick line of Happy Skin. But after swatching, I noticed that they aren’t really completely matte. They offer a very slight sheen finish, possibly because of the Cupuacu Butter that keeps the lips hydrated. Okay, it’s not entirely matte but I don’t really mind. This way, they’re more forgiving to dry lips as they don’t tend to settle on cracks and crevices as much. Plus, the sheen is very subtly.
But as far as matte lipsticks go, this is probably the softest and easiest to apply. It spreads like butter and it doesn’t drag on the lips. It goes on so smoothly that you’ll think you’re applying a lip balm! Well, it might as well be because it is indeed very hydrating to the lips. <3
Hot Stuff is a deep burgundy wine red. This shade is a lot deeper in person. It is a unique, vamp-y shade that is very sexy. It works best with minimal eye makeup and just a hint of blush. This shade is very bold and pigmented so make sure to line and shape the lips properly. TIP: Use the tip of the crayon to outline the lips and then use it on a slanted manner to fill the rest of your lips.
is a peach nude shade. The usual struggle when it comes to nude lipsticks such as this is that it has the tendency to wash me out – I look sickly, anemic even. But not this one. This has just enough mix of beige and peach undertone to still give me color. This shade is very versatile – it looks great with minimal makeup for a natural look and even with bold, smokey eye look.
TIP: This shade may sometime look patchy when applied especially on dry skin. What I do is after applying the first layer, I blot the excess on a tissue to even out the shade. Only after that do I apply the second layer.
It feels insanely light on the lips but mind you, it offers intense color payoff! Both shades go on opaque even on the first layer. The color builds as I layer on more but I hardly ever need to. It has a decent wear time of around 4-5 hours. It doesn’t leave a stain, though, which kinda disappointed me, especially for the Hot Stuff.
These two shades are beyond stunning! They show the two sides in every girl: the quiet demure side, and the strong and sultry side. I just love how this limited edition set captures both sides perfectly. I have more than enough lipstick to last me a year but this Happy Skin Moisturizing Lipstick Set is a welcome addition to my growing collection. I know I’ll be using these for months to come. <3
What do you think of these limited edition lipsticks? Thinking about getting a set for yourself? <3
