I often cast aside product samples especially when I also get the full-sized product. But during my recent stay in China, I began to appreciate samples so much more. We didn’t have much luggage space with all the shoes, makeup and extra bag that I brought (plus all the pasalubongs), I had no choice but to bring deluxe samples in tubes and even those in single-use sachets. One of the things I brought with me was a couple tubes of  Himalaya Herbals Neem Face Wash and Purifying Masks thinking that the latter would be pretty useful in calming my skin given the sudden change in environment.

Himalaya Herbals founded in 1930, have a range of ‘head to heel’ herbal healthcare and personal care products. They contain 100% Herbal Actives hence making them extremely safe and highly effective.  I haven’t really tried them before the trip but I thought the timing was as good as any. 🙂

Himalaya’s Purifying Neem Face Wash is a soap-free, herbal formulation that clears impurities and helps clear pimples. A natural blend of Neem and Turmeric bring together their antibacterial and antifungal properties to prevent the recurrence of acne over time. Suitable for all skin types. Best for acne-prone skin.
Himalaya Herbals Neem Face Wash comes in 2 variances: Purifying Neem Face Wash and Neem Foaming Facial Wash. Both contain Neem and Turmeric as their main ingredient. Neem Oil and Neem Leaves relieves dry skin and soothes itchiness, redness and irritation. It also improves general skin health and ability to combat bacterial infections that causes acne, boils and ulcers. It also helps to heal wounds without exposing it to further infection. Turmeric, on the other hand, contains strong anti-inflammatory properties, which soothe the skin. It evens out the skin tone while promoting skin elasticity and also making it supple in the process.
First things first. Purifying Neem Face Wash is a gel-type facial wash that comes in a typical transparent squeeze tube. It doesn’t foam up a lot like other facial washes which reinforces its soap-free claim. It lathers up smoothly and gently on the skin but it does take a while to rinse off since it is gel after all. I like how it leaves my face feeling fresh and clean without the dryness. My skin doesn’t feel stretched at all. It’s smoother, too. Definitely my favorite from the two. 🙂
If you’re fond of the bubble facial washes released by most Korean brands, you’ll find Neem Foaming Facial Wash equally as interesting. It is housed in a plastic bottle with a pump that dispenses the rich bubbly foam. No need to lather; you can apply it directly on the face. It has the same organic, slightly minty scent like the first one but not the same after-wash feeling. Apparently, this variant is more suitable for those with oily skin as it can be too drying for those with normal skin. I have combination-oily skin but after using this, my skin felt a bit stretched at some areas especially the forehead. I’m guessing this second variant contains more of the pimple-drying ingredient compared to the former.
Overall, I would recommend the gel version to those with dry-normal skin whereas the foam one for those with oily skin. For acne-prone, I believe the two can be used alternately as we don’t want to strip our skin if its natural moisture – as I said before, acne-prone is NOT always = oily skin. Too much dryness could also be a source of breakout. Although, with organic products such as this, severe dryness would not be a problem.. not like products that contains tons of chemical. But then again, to each their own. 🙂
