Normally, this kind of ox blood shade would make me turn away from any lipstick booth as I find it very intimidating and almost unwearable – unless I’m going as a witch for a costume party. Sorry but I don’t attend vampire meetings so I don’t need this.. well, that’s what I thought. As it turns out, this vampy-looking deep violet lipstick is actually very pretty and wearable after all!

As usual, it is encased in a black bullet-type tube and has the brand’s signature vanilla scent. MAC Rebel is part of the brand’s permanent line and it has a satin finish. Meaning, it is creamy so it glides on smoothly, not as opaque as the matte ones but is still very pigmented and buildable. Also, it has a bit of a sheer, almost glossy, finish. My favorite part about it is that it’s not drying at all!

MAC Rebel is a dark plum color from the tube but is really a berry red shade when swatched. The color may look scary at first glance. Thankfully, the shade is not that strong when worn. Actually, I personally think that this shade would go great with any skin tone.
It stays on for a good 4-5 hours. Normally, when I wear bold shades, it’s a must for me to carry with me the lipstick for retouching because more often than not, they tend to feather out in the middle of the day and leave an uneven stain. I wouldn’t want that! But for MAC Rebel, this isn’t the case. The color may fade after a few hours but it leaves a rather gorgeous and even plum stain which I love! <3

The key to rocking a dark lip shade is keeping everything else at a minimum. Since MAC Rebel alone makes a bold and loud statement, there’s no need to go overboard with your eyeshadow and sharp contours. The best way to rock this lip color is by going with earth-tone eyeshadow colors or simply just the classic black winged liner.

So tell me, what’s the darkest shade of lipstick you’ve ever worn?
