I’ve seen quite a number of reviews about Maybelline Clear Smooth BB Stick on the blogosphere late last year. I was really tempted to give it a try but I was perfectly contented with my BB cream that time which was EnCara BB Cream (Read review HERE). I loved my EnCara BB Cream so much that I finished the entire tube in less than 3 months!
And just when I was about to repurchase it from Aila of Makeup and My World, I saw that Maybelline was having a 20% off yearend sale (Php 199 instead of Php 249). You could guess what happened next.. I grabbed a tube of Maybelline Clear Smooth BB Stick to try if the raves are true and went straight to the counter and paid for it — ok, not really straight to the counter since I kinda circled around the department store and bought other products that I didn’t need but were also on sale. Don’t judge me, I just can’t help it! LOL!

Maybelline Clear Smooth BB Stick comes in a mint green tube with clear plastic cap. The BB stick is easily exposed just by twisting the bottom part. It’s totally retractable to be able control how much product will exceed the inner silver tube. However, during the first few uses, the BB stick doesn’t go completely down so there’s this half an inch product peeking out of the silver tube that could easily be chopped off if not cautious in returning the clear cap. No worries, once you’ve used up that part, there will no longer be any product outside the silver tube when retracted.
Another important thing to note is that the BB stick itself is soft so when exposed to humid temperature and then combined with excess in dispensing, there’s a great tendency of breaking the BB stick into half — like what happened to mine. The trick here is to only allow half an inch (or even less) of the product to exceed the silver tube.
There’s nothing tricky about applying and evening out Maybelline Clear Smooth BB Stick. It’s beginner-friendly. LOL! On my part, I just swirl it over my face – sometimes when I’m a bit off, I write things on my face using this – and then blend it using a wedge sponge. It’s completely dry so no need to worry about the sponge soaking up most of the product.
Texture-wise, it feels powdery and silky smooth upon application.. as if tinted baby powder was molded into this BB stick. It gives a unique semi-matte finish as compared to the dewy finish that most BB creams offer. Thus making the process of setting it with powder is no longer as necessary as usual. It lasts around 4-6 hours without retouching. My face normally gets oily around the nose area and it’s still true even when I use this one. Meaning if you have oily skin, still set it with powder despite the semi-matte finish.

As the label “Radiance” suggests, Maybelline Clear Smooth BB Stick gives the skin a nice hint of glow and makes it look slightly brighter without looking too made up or fake. It’s light which makes it perfect for everyday use. However, because of it’s powdery texture, it’s impossible to layer on without creating a grayish, almost white, cast and making it look cakey. Also, it cannot substitute a concealer because of it’s light coverage.
I’m thinking about trying Maybelline’s BB Cream next time. Have you tried that one before?
Which one do you think is better, BB stick or BB cream?
I should probably write a post about the difference between the two. *light bulb!*
That’s it for this one. I’ll see you on my next post! πŸ™‚

*P.S I’ll be posting a FOTD using this one soon. ;D
