If there’s a review on the Shiseido UV Protective Liquid Foundation (Read review HERE) then a review on the compact version is bound to follow. You know how much I’m impressed by the liquid foundation so there’s no doubt I’ll be using its partner. Plus, I’m not really fond of mixing and matching brands for my liquid and powder foundation. I strongly feel that to really assess a makeup or skincare line, I must try them together. πŸ™‚

With exclusive SuperVeil-UV 360TM technology and ProfenseCELTM to resist aging, Shiseido sun foundations protect skin from damage caused by external aggressors such as UV rays and dryness. Resistant to water and sebum, they provide a long lasting, natural-looking finish, while safeguarding skin’s beauty for the future.
The first thing I noticed about this Shiseido UV Protective Compact Foundation’s packaging next to its refreshing turquoise color is its irregular shape. If their goal is it set it apart from other compacts, well, they succeeded alright. HAHA. Oh by the way, the compact is sold separately from the refill. It’s a bit expensive at Php998 but its super cute and quirky in a way. I just hope it doesn’t get scratched up easily so that when I buy new refills, the compact won’t look old and tattered.
The compact has 2 layers: one for the sponge and another one with the refill and mirror. I like how the sponge is on a separate compartment simply because it’s more hygienic that way. Imagine using your sponge to apply the powder midday when your face is oily and then putting it back on the compact WITH the powder. It’s the perfect way to cultivate bacteria ON your applicator and powder. At least when you have a different compartment for the sponge, accumulation of dirt and bacteria would be minimal especially with the small opening on the sides of the compact that allows air to circulate.

Shiseido UV Protective Compact Foundation comes in 10 new shades to cater to more skin tones. I got Medium Beige (SP60) to match my Liquid Foundation but this looks way darker on the pan than it is when worn. To tell you honestly, it took me 2 months before I decided to use it because I thought there’s no way in hell this would be the correct shade for me. I convinced myself to give it a go and if it doesn’t work, I could always use it for contouring. Thank heavens it matched my skin tone, it would’ve been a waste if it didn’t. Now I have utter trust on whatever a Shiseido makeup artist recommends. They’re that good – at least from my experience!

A refill pan has 12g of product which is a lot since most powder foundations contain only 10g or sometimes even less. Shiseido UV Protective Compact Foundation can be applied either wet or dry. I personally prefer to use it dry with my dome powder brush to set my foundation. This way I get a very sheer, totally natural coverage great for everyday use. I rarely use my powder foundations wet but for better coverage, this is the best way to go. Although, it could look a bit cakey at times. Texture-wise, Shiseido UV Protective Compact Foundation is a bit hard. I mean, it isn’t powdery but it takes a lot of effort to get enough product on the applicator.

Shiseido UV Protective Compact Foundation gives a nice silky-matte finish with sheer to medium coverage. It’s not the dull matte kind but a bit dewier. Much like its liquid counterpart, it has this white cast on flash photography because of the high SPF content but with an amazing staying power of around 6-7 hours before it starts to fade. As great as its wear time is, it doesn’t have much oil control properties. It doesn’t look shiny or insanely oily midday (I have combination oily skin, by the way) but in no way can it prevent oiliness. Overall, for my skin type, it’s just enough to keep my skin presentable all throughout the day – no need for retouching unless I’m going to somewhere special for dinner. πŸ™‚
