In a country like ours, waterproof products are a definite must-have. I mean, if it’s not raining, you’re probably sweating nonstop until you’re dehydrated so either way, you’ll need a product that stays on despite humidity or rain. And that’s exactly what I’ve found in the new Shiseido UV Protective Liquid Foundation. πŸ™‚

With exclusive SuperVeil-UV 360TM technology and ProfenseCELTM to resist aging, Shiseido’s UV Protective Liquid Foundation is broad spectrum and protects skin from damage caused by external aggressors such as UV rays and dryness. Resistant to water and sebum, they provide a long lasting, natural-looking finish, while safeguarding skin’s beauty for the future.

Shiseido UV Protective Liquid Foundation is housed in this quirky little turquoise bottle with a funnel-like opening for better control in dispensing the product. The color of the packaging alone is already very adorable but the fact that the bottle is light and fits perfectly in my palms make it travel-friendly. It isn’t bulky, too, which makes it a great thing to have in my overnight makeup kit. Although a bigger version of this would be nice, too. πŸ™‚
Also, it comes with a weirdly shaped sponge. I love how the sponge came in with its own compact because otherwise, I wouldn’t know how to bring it with me. Liquid foundations seldom have applicators like this let alone a portable container for the applicator.  The sponge doesn’t tear apart or crumbles during use. Plus points for being durable – I’m talking about both the compact and the sponge!
Shiseido UV Protective Liquid Foundation comes in 8 different shades of Ivory, Ochre and Beige. I didn’t get to swatch them as I based my pick on the expert judgment of Shiseido’s resident makeup artist during the event but I’m guessing the difference lies mostly on the undertone. Ivory is more on alabaster, Ochre is a bit yellowish while Beige has a pink base. I’m not sure with this so don’t quote me on that. HAHA.
I was actually hesitant to get Medium Beige (SP60) at first because of its pink undertone – mine is obviously more on the yellow side. But like an obedient little girl, I followed the makeup artist’s suggestion and got this. Unlike sales ladies from other makeup brands’ counters, Shiseido’s personnel are well-trained and very knowledgeable. They really know what they’re talking about and they only recommend the best – not just for the sake of selling their products.
For something that has this amount of SPF content, Shiseido UV Protective Liquid Foundation is surprisingly thin, light and runny. I swear if you apply it directly on your face, it would drip off in less than a minute! It spreads and blends on the skin effortlessly given how light its consistency is.
In terms of coverage, it comes off sheer at first but still buildable. It has the tendency to cake when more than 2 layers are applied. Personally, I don’t like using more than 1 layer simply because putting on too much of this kinda defeats its lightweight consistency. Plus 1 layer is often enough to cover minor blemishes so there’s no use for me to layer on more.
Now for the best part: the wear time. Shiseido UV Protective Liquid Foundation stays on for hours and hours with minimal fading. It can withstand sweat alright. I even wore this while swimming last week just to see if it’s truly water-resistant and what do you know, it actually stayed on! Well, not all of it but you can still see hints of the foundation and some of the coverage left on the skin – don’t worry, it didn’t come out streaky after a quick swim. πŸ™‚
When used on normal days, it’s unlikely to look cakey and fade with sweat. It does transfer on my phone’s screen when I take calls though, but again, very minimal. The staying power of this Shiseido UV Protective Liquid Foundation is unlike any other foundations I’ve tried before. The only downside to this is that it takes a little more effort to remove. And oh, there’s also the white cast from the high SPF content, too, but that’s a given. πŸ˜€

I love the fresh dewy finish that it gives. The consistency maybe light but it feels a bit heavy on the face. Good thing it isn’t sticky! I can actually get away with setting just the areas around my eyes and nose and not the entire face. But for more wear time, I usually pair this with the Shiseido UV Protective Compact Foundation for optimum result. Review on the powder will be posted next, of course. πŸ™‚
