News flash! Did you know that hair coloring is actually easy to do? Like DIY-easy. Just get yourself the right products and you’re all set. I should know because I’ve been coloring my hair using DIY box hair color since college. Granted that I’m not a professional, I genuinely think my hair color still looked nice IMHO. It’s easy AND affordable!

Watsons recently launched a campaign to encourage its female shoppers to go out of their hair comfort zones and discover different hair color and hair style trends. Interestingly named #Hairgoals, its aim is to introduce a whole new world of color and style options and alternatives for women. With a vast spread of hair products available in-store, Watsons shoppers will find it a cinch to go for the specific look that they desire.

In support of this, an event was held on a couple of weeks ago at the SM Mall Of Asia Activity Center. Guests were given a chance to try out new hairstyles and colors by trying out products and tools available at Watsons. There were also other fun activities like the flatlay contest, selfie booth and the Color GIF Area where they edit different hair colors on your photo to see what suits you best.

With Hair Color provided by L’Oreal, Revlon, Kolours, Bigen, Beautylabo, Lolane, Liese and Revia, Styling tools and products by JML, W. Elite, Babyliss, VS Sassoon, Tresemme, Aquanet, Finesse and Suave, and Hair Care Products by Dove, Pantene, Creamsilk, it was indeed an event not to be missed. After all, there’s nothing like uncovering a more gorgeous version of you by simply doing a few tweaks to how your hair looks.

And to prove that box hair colors are as good as your typical salon hair color, the event even had booths where they offered free hair color application for items bought during the event. As expected, the L’Oreal and Revlon booths were full. They were automatically my first choice but, sadly, they didn’t have the type of red that I wanted so I went to Lolane.

The red I wanted was vibrant but still work-appropriate. I discussed this with Sir Patrick, Lolane’s head stylist from Thailand, with the help of his translator since he cannot speak English. I wanted the outcome to be somewhat close to the P30 red on their color board (photo on the left) but since my hair is not bleached, the result would obviously be darker. He suggested we use P37 Intense Red instead (bottom right of the color board). I was a bit hesitant at first – I can’t want to go to work looking like a member of a punk/rock band, haha. But alas, I got the exact shade I wanted using the brighter red. <3

I’ve always known red hair suits me best and I have Lolane and Watsons to thank for it – for only Php129 per box! They used a total of 3 boxes on my hair and it’s still quite affordable, don’t you think?

I actually attended the event and had my hair done during lunch break from work and when I came back to the office, my friends really loved my new hair color (mostly because I told them how cheap it was). To say that they were excited is an understatement. They coerced me to accompanying them (yes, all 5 of them) to the hair color booths as it opened to the public after the bloggers’ event to get their hairs done as well.

It’s great to be able to consult with their stylist before purchasing the product. We just showed him the result we wanted and he’ll tell you which shade to get to achieve it. Two of my friends wanted different tones of light brown and Sir Patrick used grey hair color to achieve it. I just hope they can orient or even train their sales ladies about this to better assist buyers in the future.
